It was a year before passing high school that I decided to take the learner’s test. It was an exciting thought because it would bring me a step closer to completing the driving test and buying my own car. But for now, my father had approved of my efforts and was willing to let me have the family car for going out on weekends if I passed the learner’s practice test. This was a great opportunity because all my friends had cars and I did not like having to share a ride with them.

Studies were also up on my priority list. This was because I was really poor at chemistry and had very bad grades at the subject. The concepts went over my head but a good friend was willing to give me lessons after class. Still I wanted to quit high school but my teachers talked to me and gave me the confidence to pull myself through the term.

I also remember many good things about my friends. They were a great support and helped me to go through several challenges of teenage. We had a lot of fun together. I remember we used to spend time together after school at the shopping center and the park. We all had our skateboards and would try out new stunts to attract the opposite sex. When we weren’t skateboarding my friends were driving around. Some even let me drive the car while they taught me how to steer and park in the proper way.

With these lessons I went to give the learner’s practice test. It was a nerve wracking experience and for a moment I thought I would crash the car into a wall. But I held onto my nerves because if I failed the test I would not be able to take it again for a long time and would miss the road trip my friends were planning on after the term was over.

The learner’s practice test went well. And after a while I also cleared the final test. Before the term was over I had gotten my learner’s permit and was ready to take out the car. Before the road trip, I spent the entire weekend in making sure the car looked just perfect for the trip.

It was an unforgettable road trip. We were all by ourselves and completely free for three weeks after the term. We saw the most amazing sights and met the most amazing folks. We raced, fished, and did some amateur photography. It was indeed a lot of fun and we felt like grownups and kids at the same time. It is truly an experience I still cherish after all these years.
