I have come to realize that one of the most sought after gift for today is a box of the latest mobile phone. I came to know this since for several years in a row, I have read in a magazine that during Christmas time, and graduation days, the latest brands of mobile phones sold at department stores and malls always go out of stock due to gift giving. Even an ordinary birthday nowadays would be much appreciated by the celebrant if he or she is gifted with a brand new mobile phone.
When my sister celebrated her birthday two month ago, I gave her a Nokia N series. You can see the joy in her eyes upon receiving my gift. It was pure joy. I really could not fathom how the mobile phone has come to be such a very hot commodity among the younger generation of today. It would seem as if they would give everything for a unit of a brand new mobile phone.
Several years ago, when I was as young as my younger sister now, having our own phone was no big deal. Every one of my classmates then has also their own phone at home, but we did not give our phone any importance at all. Of course it was important to us in a sense that we can call our friends and talk of important things related to university life and even to talk about our problems at school. We also utilize our phone to set up our dates and everything else that needs to be done at home like calling our beautiful instructress to clarify on some points of our previous days discussion and asked her advices about love and many other things just so I can hear her voice over the telephone. But I cannot see anything so exciting about our phone, although it helps us to communicate with others outside our house. Besides, the color of our phone is black, so there can be nothing so exciting about it.
How come that these new phones of today, those so called mobile phones can cause so much excitement? I think the reason would be due to the fact that mobile phones has become a fad for a stylish way of life. Besides, mobile phones can be used to send and receive messages through SMS or the what we call Text messages that are discreet and would only be seen by you as the sender and your sweet someone as the receiver. Another reason I think would be the very low cost of sending SMS or text massages to your love ones that would enable you to text back and forth love notes and love messages between yourselves. And of course, the fact that your phone is always with you wherever you go and just like your loved one, both of you can send and received messages wherever the two of you maybe.
Unlike the traditional fixed landline telephone colored black that we have at home which did not give me any big deal when we have it installed during my student days, Mobile phones can indeed give that feeling of happiness when you gave it as a gift to someone you care for. So, comes the birthday of a loved one, how about giving her or him a box of Nokia N ?
