Unfortunately, military members living on the base at Camp Lejeune have been drinking contaminated water for over 30 years. In a horrifying recent revelation, it came to light that dry cleaning chemicals had been dumped into two different water distribution systems, and in turn contaminated the base’s water supply. The Environmental Protection Agency even cites the Camp as being one of the most hazardous locations in the country, hardly anything to brag about.
Did anyone know about this and take action to get their own safe water supply system at home by using water distillers? No other method of water purification is as effective as using distilled water. In the case of base personnel at Camp Lejeune, it might have saved soldiers suffering from rare forms of cancer as a result of drinking contaminated water.
Sadly, one study released over 12 years ago suggested there was no link between the water supply at the camp and the rash of illness among soldiers living there. A more recent study blasted that initial report out of the water and has pointed out that 22 cases of very rare male breast cancer have stricken personnel stationed there. In the meantime, those on base should be aware that water distillers are their first line of defense against contaminated tap water. No other method of water purification is as effective as distilled water systems.
Following that shocking revelation of water contamination and disease, the first study bit the dust because it apparently didn’t take major cancer causing agents into consideration. On the contrary, it appears that hundreds of thousands of vets and their families were affected by the contaminated water that made its effects known in the guise of various forms of cancer, birth defects and miscarriages.
Only now is something being done to allow Marines affected by the contaminated water access to health care through the Department of Veteran Affairs. While this is commendable, nothing much is happening on the other side of the fence. In other words, there is nothing being done to increase awareness at the base about handling contaminated water, despite the fact the Marines have known about the problem since 1980.
Only education about water distillers and water distillation systems would raise the level of awareness for current base personnel. Having a water distiller installed at home and drinking Mother Nature fresh distilled water would go a long way toward protecting the American military, no matter where they were based.
