There are many different meditation techniques for many different situations, but one of most tangible benefits of meditation is using that inner strength to help guide us in finding answers to problems and making decisions.

If there are alternatives to be considered and a decision to be made, you have an inner adviser who can be helpful. We all have a higher self, made up of a conscience and an ideal self towards which we strive. The problem is that it is not always possible to get in touch with this important resource while we are going about our daily business or chores, but when in meditation, in that inner stillness, those inner resources become available.

Some may wish to imagine sitting in front of a wise old man or woman - this may be an image of someone we have known in our life, or a completely imaginary being.

Some may choose an animal or a bird, such as an owl, as the focus of attention.

Having imagined this inner adviser in whichever way suits you, now imagine being with that adviser and asking a simple question about your problem, then wait . . . You may get a very real insight straight away, or it may be that your adviser uses a present or gives you a scene to think about, or may even open up a possibility not yet considered.

At first the answer may seem obscure, but at some later point the meaning will become obvious to you.

We all have an inner adviser, a source of wisdom, formed perhaps before birth, but constantly being brought up to date by our day-to-day experience of the world around us, and our own reactions to it. It is a valuable resource, and with the help of meditation you can use it to give you the confidence to make decisions, and move forward into your future.
