Wages are relatively strong. Salaries for medical sales jobs range from 20K basic salary in the Uk to 50K and above with excellent bonus packages to accompany.
It's a technical sales role selling to highly respected specialists in the medical fields and as such medical sales jobs tend to carry more kudos than other sales roles.

Unlike many sales jobs, Medical sales doesn't involve the immediate buzz of the sale. You will walk out of most calls never really knowing whether you have sold, no signatures or payments to reward your efforts. The results you do get are 2 months in arrears and not really attributable to individual events.
You need to pass the ABPI exam within 2 years. You could be settled into your role and delivering excellent sales results, but if you fail to pass your ABPI within the first 2 years, you will be asked to leave you job never to return to a medical sales role.
The demand for healthcare in the UK is rising, the resources available are shrinking in the present NHS, this is an equation that doesn't work. The UK pharmaceutical industry is already suffering the pinch from the NHS, meaning the industry, at present, is rife with dramatic changes bringing job insecurity.
It's easy to become 'type cast' into medical sales jobs. As this role is so very different to other forms of selling, once you have done it for a while it may be difficult to step back outside of the industry.
Most Head offices are in the South East, so if you have aspirations to climb the carer ladder, you are likely to have to be prepared to relocate here if you want to succeed.
Medical sales jobs still offer a fantastic career opportunity for people looking for commercial careers. However, it is very different to any other commercial sales role I have known, so if you are considering this role, it's advisable to do your homework before you commit.
