Managing classroom behaviour in schools is very important because younger children tend to be quite naughty and hurtful towards their fellow pupils. It is always important that every classroom and corridor has a set of school behaviour rules posted so that wherever the pupils are, they have a set of rules nearby that they are constantly reminded of to ensure that they stop themselves from behaving in an unpleasant manner.

It is also important that both the pupils and the teachers remember that they have to be able to treat their peers with respect and definitely no name calling or using nicknames for fellow pupils and teachers please. It is also important that teachers don’t humiliate the pupils if the response to a particular question is slightly incorrect or “off the wall” as this could damage the pupil’s confidence and lead to poor progression and behaviour. Situations like these should be handled by repeating the question and asking another pupil to answer.

Ensure that pupils are taught to put their hands up if they require a teacher’s attention and not to shout across the room as this is disturbing to other pupils as well as neighbouring classrooms and looks rude if there are visitors nearby examining the schools teaching standards.

The same goes for pupils requiring other pupil’s attention. Ensure that the children are taught to be pleasant and polite to each other. OD not let them slip by allowing them to through stationary across the room and shout to get each other attention.

In order to promote pleasant and polite behaviour in the classroom, ensure that each lesson is a mixture of theory and practical exercise to allow interactive and quite learning in the classroom. End of topic quizzes can be provided to measure how much pupils have remembered from the lesson. This will allow the teacher to address any issues that the pupils might have with grasping the basic concept of the subject as well as any material covered in the session.

Classroom behaviour is not just related to rules but also to the way pupils are taught in the classroom. Boring and non-interactive sessions will lead to poor classroom behaviour whereas interesting and interactive sessions will lead to interest in the subject as well as interest in learning more and therefore promoting good behaviour.
