We are all aware that mlm lead generation is one of the key components to a successful mlm business, right? So now the question you should be asking yourself is "how do I generate targeted mlm leads?" I mean, come on now. Why spend a lot of time and/or money to design an mlm advertising campaign if the people it will draw are just window shoppers and tire kickers? And if you're purchasing so-called targeted lead lists, this article is for you too, and it might just save your sanity and your bank account as an added bonus.
Let's begin by taking a look at the kinds of leads people advertise for and/or pay money for outright. If you've been in the mlm industry long enough, you started with pretty much all old school mlm lead generation, just like I did. You know how it works, make a list of ALL your friends and family, call them, and get in front of them with your mlm business presentation right away. Or at least drop off some sample product and a cd, video, magazine, flyer or brochure. When you've gone through all of that list, make a new list of everyone that you come into contact with on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and do it all over again. And when you've finished with that list, go to the mall, the gym, and anyplace else you can think of that is full of people you don't know, strike up a conversation, hand out your business card and a cd, video or brochure, get their contact information, and then kiss that cd or video goodbye, because there's a pretty good chance you're never going to hear from them again. Don't pay any attention to the fact that you're going broke (or are already there) buying product and marketing materials and still not generating enough mlm income to pay for squat. Just do this every day until you're tired of beating your head against a brick wall and say enough is enough!
Okay, so the heck with generating your own leads. You'll just buy some lead lists, perhaps genealogy leads and some opportunity seeker leads, and convert those leads into prospects with a simple phone call. Have you ever bought either one of those types of lead lists before? Well I have. Genealogy lists…night after night of wrong numbers, disconnects and people who haven't been in the industry for 5+ years and don't want anything to do with you. And don't forget the wrong numbers and uninterested individuals are really irritated because 500 other people have called them for the same reason and they just want to be left alone! Have you already been there? If not, don't' squander your time.
So what about opportunity seeker lists? They're searching for an opportunity, right? Well yes, they are. But too many of them have NO CLUE about what it takes to be a business owner, don't have the capital set aside to get started, want to give it a "try" to see if it works, can't decide on which mlm opportunity is the best one for them, and if they do enroll, jump ship pretty fast either because they completely lack commitment to owning their own online mlm business or they find another internet business opportunity that looks more exciting to them on that specific day. You'll find a lot of window shoppers, tire kickers and test drivers in this mlm lead category.
So now we're back to mlm lead generation. What kinds of leads should I target? This is the question that will get you on the right track, the fast track to developing your mlm business. Whether you're using paid or free advertising methods, or paid or free online lead generating strategies like social media marketing and article marketing, your Target Market should be Other Networkers. Wait a minute now Clint, why would I want to target folks who most likely already have their own mlm business? Terrific question! That's a big theme in and of itself, so I'm going to give you the condensed answer here, and go into a more in depth explanation in part II of this 2 part series. I'm giving you the "nutshell version" with the understanding that you already know that you DON'T ADVERTISE YOUR PRIMARY BUSINESS! Other networkers already want what you are offering, what all network marketers need: more customers and more business builders. So your goal is to attract them by offering them what they need through both valuable free information and funded proposals.
As Mike Dillard puts it: "Opportunity leads are simply "opportunity seekers." Network marketers are "opportunity buyers," and we sell a business opportunity!"
As I said, that subject is too deep to fit into just a paragraph here, so we'll resume that line of thinking in the next article in this series: "MLM Lead Generation: Who Is Your Target Market? Part II" In the meantime, start doing some more research on this topic yourself. There's a lot of it out there if you just dig around a little. If you're really interested in mlm lead generation and becoming a Big Dog in the mlm industry, than my number one recommendation to you is Mike Dillard's "Magnetic Sponsoring." That will give you an incredibly clear understanding of Attraction Marketing, why you need to become a leader and how to do that, and the magic of funded proposals for both you and your team. Blindly advertising for your mlm opportunity is NOT going to get you the results you're looking for. But this will definitely put you and your group on the expressway to financial freedom. Keep it real, and keep taking action!
