Before 1954 nobody had ever ran a mile in less than 4 minutes, although several runners had come close. When British runner Roger Bannister set the world record - 3 minutes, 59,4 seconds - it was a milestone.
After the "magical" limit had been broken it became common to run faster than 4 minutes, and today it is not considered a landmark at all.
What is the connection between running and trying to lose love handles - apart from the obvious one of exercising? The common thread is - it’s all in the mind! Before 9th of May 1954 it was not expected that anyone could to run faster than 4 minutes.
Of course it wasn’t, but the interesting thing is that once that “magical” record was broken other runners found it easier to do the same.
When trying to get rid of excess fat and pounds, it is very common to have to fight your own unconscious, negative thoughts. Assumptions like :
“I never manage to lose weight”. “I am a big boned person”. “I have a slow metabolism”. "Growing older means you'll become heavier".
Having negative assumptions - these or others - will make it difficult, even impossible, to succeed in your goals.
Why?
Because your subconscious will sabotage your efforts, without you even realising it.
How come? Simply - your body is basically run by your brain, your mind. Your brain tries to keep itself and your whole body - you - in a good state, and if you hold a belief that it is quite normal to put on weight, then that is what your subconscious will try to make happen. That would be "un-natural".
This is known to be true, even if it seems to be contra intuitive. Let's make it clearer:
Imagine you’re four years old. Someone close to you is slowly wasting away. She -or he - is not eating and looks badly malnourished. Your family all try to make your relative eat.
Of course, the passing away of a relative is not really something that a child understands - however, the emotions that are being felt are of course being felt also by the little child. Imagine how deep an impression all this would make on a four year old.
And then imagine what will be in your subconscious when you try to go on a diet as a grown-up ... it's easy to understand that your mind will recall these emotions as you start to lose weight.
The emotions tell you that it is dangerous and bad to be thin, it will make everyone sad. Getting thin calls up subconscious memories - emotions - of death and grief..
And, emotions are MUCH more powerful than logical reasoning! This is the reason why your emotions have to be looked at if you are to succeed in losing love handles or belly fat, and getting slimmer.
Your subconscious must be enlisted! That is crucial!
