List building is much more than gaining an email from someone on the internet. If it was only about gaining personal info about a complete stranger, why even use the internet at all? Why wouldn't you stand on a street corner and ask for their information? Typically, this doesn't work well. So here lies the problem...you need other people to give you their personal information whether that's their name, email address and maybe their phone number without ever seeing you or even in most times not talking to you initially. Sounds like this could be a lot to ask for, but people will gladly give you this information for only one thing...VALUE!

Effective list building comes down to one simple rule. People will exchange their information for something of value for themselves. So,in order to supercharge traffic to your business, you need to offer genuine value, not just another sales pitch about how much better you are than everyone else on the internet. They have heard all the sales pitches before. What is the one question that everyone asks? What's in it for me? So, let's talk about value and what your prospects are looking for.

The first thing of value to your future prospects is: what makes you distinct? Are you a leader that they can follow and learn from? Look at history. There have been many excellent leaders but many more followers. People by nature are not leaders, so take charge. Become a leader and followers will always find value in that. When you choose to become more valuable, the more people will seek and follow you.

The second thing of value: you never sell your business to them. Your prospects are one of three things. They are in a business, out of a business or don't care about your business. The true value to your prospects is offering them a complete marketing system. Something as simple as a set of tools and instructions to help them become a leader like yourself works well. This is a very simple concept, but it is rarely taught. It becomes true value for the people that embrace it. Learn how to teach this and people will line up to learn this valuable lesson.

A third thing of value: you need to give your future prospects something that will give them hope for their future. One of the best things to do is to let people know that they are important and valuable to you. The best way to accomplish this is by communicating with them. Make them feel a part of your team and part of your future plans. People by nature want to be accepted and valued especially by someone seen as a leader. Remember to treat people the way you want to be treated and you will have a client, prospect, or even a friend for life. This is true business value for your future as well as your prospects' future.

Finally, just a couple of things I try and do for all of my clients and future prospects. Contact them as soon as possible to introduce myself and see if there is anything I can help them with right away. Now, the quickest way is always by email, but the best way is still by phone. It doesn't have to be a long call but just enough to get to know one another. Treat people truthfully and always be honest. If you have true integrity, your clients will always find value in any advice you give them. Don't lie to people just to make a sale. Remember your future isn't about sales. It is about relationship. If you only did these two things, people would follow your leadership because of the value associated with these traits.
