Although I'm not an advocate for including unorthodox SEO strategies with your online business, a respectable amount of thinking must be invested nevertheless on whether or not to really not use them.
The thing is that many marketers are so afraid of loosing something that they don't own - rankings in the SERPs - that they don't even consider taking one single risky step towards online profits.
1.Reciprocal linking partnership(s) - doesn't get definitive results unless combined with a consistent portion of one way back links.
Google has no difficulty in discovering reciprocal links. When this happens, they generally exclude them from its index.
This shouldn't be taken as a general rule of thumb. Know that the chances that your link exchange keeps transferring authority after being identified are greatly influenced by the credibility of your partner webmaster.
For transparent sites, having reciprocal links further increases their authority in the niche they represent.
On the opposite corner if all you do is build obscure one way back links and reciprocal links, these last mentioned assets will probably be ignored by search engines when evaluating the authority of your business website.
Time is better spent creating and packaging valuable content that people are willing to link to it.
2. Page Onload Redirects - also effective short term, but with serious consequences if spotted.
The sentence is immediate exclusion from the search engines. These days, the major SEs have become even more competent on discovering JavaScript redirects.
If you want to move a site or individual pages, use 301 redirect to preserve the PageRank and pass it to the new location.
Just make sure the domain name is functional and the webpage goes into the same subject.
3. Purchasing backlinks - highly productive with little known link sources and a fair amount of discretion.
One of the reasons why this tactic is highly disputed in the SEO community is due to the fact it actually produces results.
You can make it an effective SEO tactic as long as you keep it under the SE radar each and every time you make these kind of acquisitions.
The most effective back links are those that blend naturally in the text body that even a Google engineer couldn't figure it out whether or not it's paid for.
SEO efficient back links have two characteristics in common, and these are: 1) can't be uncovered by search engine spiders or exposed by human inspectors and 2) they're hard to replicate by competitive websites.
Playing smart has another benefit: it keeps prices at their current rate because few marketers know of that back link source.
4. Artificial Linking Networks - unless is done legitimately and (or) for good reason, it leaves deep footprints.
These linking networks are, as reciprocal links, easily spotted by the search engines, even more so if you don't have a good amount of inbound links pointing into your network components to mix it up.
Google devalues websites that have many links coming from the same C block IP range. To erase these footprints use different hosting services and as stated above build massive backlinks to your site network.
If you don't have original content for each domain of your network or better still, enough reasons for starting up multiple sites, you should drop the idea.
5. Hidden Text - cheap method with poor results.
There are other more effective means of influencing rankings than this and it's not worth the risk. Is not easy for the search engines to spot such deceptive methods but believe me, smart competitors will make the necessary suggestions.
6. Cloaking - gets results until finally unraveled but the webpage needs some link equity to get indexed.
Namely, preparing two versions of the same content. One for the search engine spider and one for the human surfer.
Knowing what you do and using competent software like Fantomaster, this method isn't that easily detectable. The problem though, is that while the web evolves your website remains the same.
7. Automated Content Generation - if your intentions are clean, it can't be considered a risky SEO practice.
Google took it's dupe content filter to a whole new level, so it has become virtually impossible for websites with replicated content to rank properly in the organic listing.
From all these methods and schemes I recommend focusing on investing in quality links.
Further more, instead of making expensive purchases with Yahoo Directory and other paid directories you should place your money on under priced but quality links researched by you personally.
