Growing up I watched my brothers and sisters and the many pets that they would have. My sister was given a bird who lasted only a few years. My brother had two hamsters that lasted slightly longer - but they still didn’t fare too well. I believed that it would be best if I didn't have any pet to trouble about. That was till my dog was given to me.
It was an adorable white puppy who was all over me. He craved attention when I was around and sulked around the household when I wasn’t. The hardest part was having to toilet train him. Every time we went outdoors he became energised and wished to explore the yard and what laid beyond it.
After a a couple of escapes my parents agreed that it would be safest to invest in the right kind of dog collar that would work shock him if he ever tried to leave the edges of the yard. These collars do not injure the pet - but will serve to give them a small warning about where the hidden fence is.
At first it was tricky to train him. We taught him where the obscure fence was and he learned that the shock would get him when he got too close. However, this didn’t appear to discourage him. We discovered out that it wasn’t adequate of a shock to impact him. So we chose to increase it a small bit.
For a little bit we thought about acquiring a solar electric fence. It took virtually two weeks of schooling and a bag of doggy treats for the message to get through to him. Now he is content to play with his toys and hang out inside his doggy house. The collar has been a good investment and we are pleased to keep him off the streets where he is able to get injured.
