We all have stress in our lives, the stressors inside of marriage are a lot, things like sex, finances and raising children can have quite an impact. But it may happen that the circumstances outside your marriage may be causing you unhappiness and it may affect your marriage.

Being stressed at work is something that affects everyone but it's not related to your marriage. However, this work stress can be brought home and start to cause problems in the marriage. If one spouse is very unhappy with their job or career then that can have very real consequences on the homefront in the marriage.

These issues are not from inside the marriage but that doesn't mean it's not going to cause marital problems because it certainly can create an environment for them. Problems such as depression, sexual dysfunctions and frustration may arise from these external stressors, and then the disagreements start over such things as sex and finances. It may appear to the stressed spouse that these are marital problems when in fact they are coming from their internal stresses over external pressures.

Marriage counseling could be an answer here but a lot don't have the funds for it and most will be able to work through it themselves. Couples will have to sit down together and talk through these different issues and find solutions. Every relationship is going to experience an individuals problem becoming a marital problem, the solution is communication and finding the root issues to be able to sort it out.

A real problem will arise if the stressed spouse won't talk about what is happening or becomes truly depressed. This might be a situation where individual counseling would be a good thing, this would enable them to verbalize what's occurring to someone else, enabling understanding. This may be the way to get to the root of the issues and help solve the marriage problems arising from one person's stress.
