Civil liberties refer to people having various rights and freedoms that are protected in the United States Constitution. It is responsible for placing a cap on government so that they are not allowed to seize and abuse the power. It is also responsible for not allowing members of government to unnecessarily interfere with the private lives of private citizens.
Civil liberties are about the rights that people have in regard to freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to have due process to a trial. It also includes being able to have property and on having the right of privacy.
However, the purpose of having civil liberties seems to be fading away. Civil liberties violations have interfered with the right to have some of these freedoms. Some violations include whether or not a woman has the right to have an abortion if they so choose.
Having a civil marriage is another topic that has been threatened by civil liberties violations. That would include allowing gays and lesbians to marry. Many politicians, especially the ones from the political right and Christian right, have rallied against civil unions that involve gays and lesbians. However, there are some states in the country that has passed their own laws allowing them to marry.
Civil liberties violations, such as allowing citizens to bear arms has been a hot topic for a long time. Some people feel that victimless crimes interferes with civil liberties. There are those who feel that it is their God-given right to bear arms and have guns for their personal use.
Year after year, the federal government is accused of imposing civil liberties violations on those who they can easily prey on. They feel that since they are the larger entity, and can make your life miserable for any reason. For instance, there are laws now on the books about being able to searching someone’s home without giving them proper notification. Many feel that is a serious violation of privacy.
More people now are standing up for what they believe is right and are not giving the government the upper hand. They feel that these civil liberties violations are out of order and are going against the American people.
