More and more people are starting to get interested in how to learn self-hypnosis. They have read stories of people being able to diet more effectively by using hypnosis. Others look at sports idols like Roger Federer and Michael Hamilton and hear how these athletes have not only trained their minds as well as bodies their bodies for success.
Well it is true that hypnosis can help you in almost every area of your life, weight loss, smoking, to do more exercise, be more successful, procrastinate less and become a more self-assure person. However many people have misconceptions about hypnosis. Ask someone on the street what comes to mind when they think about hypnosis and they'll probably imagine someone on stage asking volunteers to join him on the podium then getting them to act like a chicken. Of course this is called stage hypnosis in which hypnotist actually looks for volunteers because those kinds of people are naturally more outgoing and more willing to act out abnormal behaviour in front of onlookers. In addition they have the expectation that the hypnotists has power over them. This last point is actually the key to understanding all hypnosis, not just self-hypnosis.
The stage hypnotist takes advantage of the fact that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. A hypnotist can not make you go into a trance, they can only help you put yourself into a trance. The secret of hypnosis is that a hypnotic trance is something that you do to yourself and is something you can get better at with practice. This is why the best hypnotists will actually help you go in and out of a hypnotic trance multiple times within a short space of time because this quickly teaches you what a trance state is. Once you've done it once you can do it over and over again with ease.
The Easiest Self-Hypnosis Exercise
To get started with self-hypnosis have a go at this simple exercise. Lie down in a quiet room where you won't be disturbed. Close your eyes and breathe deeply into your abdomen and belly. As you exhale say to yourself, quietly or in your mind: 'I relax'. Keep saying this over and over as you slowly start to feel warmer and relaxed all inside your body. You'll start to go into a light trance where you are completely focused on the inside of your body and the contents of your mind with little awareness of what is going on outside you.
This is a great state to be in that will let you explore your emotions, motivations and beliefs about the world. In this particular instance I want you to imagine what kind of person you want to be. Imagine what your ideal life would be like, moment to moment, day to day, what do you say to yourself, what kind of things do you spend time doing, how do people treat you and how do you treat them?
Imagine a totally ideal life and once you've done this for as long as you feel is right, start listening for the outside world, feel the bed underneath you and slowly bring your awareness back to the world around you. That's the end of our first self-hypnosis exercise. It will help you have a better self-image and bring more positivity into your life. Your mind will be reprogrammed and to bring you into living your ideal life.
Remember, the more you practise this exercise the better you'll get at it. You'll be building a strong foundation for future work with hypnosis.
