Have you ever been on Facebook when out of nowhere someone pops up in a private message that reads "Join my business XYZ, check out this website for more info"?

I think you are going to be familiar with where I am going with this.

There are so many things folks are doing on Facebook, that are dangerously destroying their brand, image, and ultimatly, their business. Sometimes though it seems natural with what you're doing. I can see you're really excited to share with others your opportunity and you want to spread the word fast, I get it, I've been there. It's acceptable though, maybe no one has taken the time to show you what NOT to do on Facebook… Until Now!

Facebook rocks, and it's a first-rate way to market your Network Marketing company, you simply have to do it passively and rarely. Facebook is altogether about building friendships, keeping your status's updated, building belief, and the most notable thing… relationships.

So let us get to the point….

1) Initial Impressions

Everyone knows this social site is called Facebook, so how come you are hiding behind some company logo, or something that's not YOU?

I don't take anyone as being genuine when I see a picture of a company, or some cartoon character. If you are requesting to be my friend, I want to put a face to the person I'm speaking to.
My Idea For You:
- Put a picture of yourself, it doesn't have to be all fancy and professional, just have it be natural and be YOU.

2) Pitching Me on a Friend Invite

Like I said in the beginning about pitching me your business before I know you. We have ZERO rapport. I don't know who you are. I've never met you. how come is it that the opening thing you're doing is pitching me your business?

You must treat Facebook like real life. You would not go to an event and meet somebody for the first time and pull out your flip chart and do a presentation right there for them would you? Well then why are you doing this online?

I automatically decline everyone requesting to be my friend with a business pitch in the instant message.

My Idea For You:

As soon as adding someone as a friend, respond with something personal such as, Hey Tom, great to relate with you on Facebook, you look like a fun person and I'm looking forward to networking with you and learning more about you.

Set yourself out from the everyone else! Just about everyone else is pitching their business.

3) Pitching Your Business on My Profile

This is worse than the second one!

It really shows you don't know what you're doing and it's not professional at all.

When I agree to a friend request and the next thing they do is post on my wall their MLM, I give them a warning that if it happens for a second time they will be deleted from my list.

Yet again, we should treat this like true life. I don't just meet someone and pitch my MLM to them; I would lose out on meeting good associates if I did that! Consequently if you don't do this in real life, why are you doing it on Facebook?

My Idea For You:

Before even writing on their wall, go look at their photos, go glance at their info and see what they like. They could have something in common along with you. They may like to snowboard, so write on their wall Hey Cindy, excellent to meet you. I see you love to snowboard as well… I look forward to getting to know more about you.

You'll get a healthier response and now you stand out from the crowd.
