How to lose 30 pounds? For many of us, that should read, “How to lose 30 pounds… again.” Call it yo-yo weight loss, serial weight loss - whatever the term - it just means there are two parts to this challenge: (1) how to lose 30 pounds, and (2) how to keep from putting it back on.
If you or I were isolated on a deserted tropical island with limited food choices, limited stress and plenty of time to exercise, we wouldn’t even be thinking about this issue. But this is today, right now in a stressed-out, too-busy-to-exercise world where so many incredible foods taste so delicious (I swear they’re laced with addictive drugs) that the challenge of how to lose 30 pounds and keep it off is daunting.
No wonder the vast majority of “dieters” fail. And self-image falls even lower than before you started. In this blog, we’ll delve into some of the best alternatives to help you meet this challenge and win. But before getting into the “how-to” details, let’s start at the beginning… where the real action is… your head… or, more precisely, your brain.
The “How to Lose 30 Pounds” Mindset - How committed are you? C’mon, be honest. Are you a reluctant dieter ready to pounce on every excuse to cheat? After all, how can you turn down a big piece of your grandmother’s mouth-watering apple pie she offers you with intense pride? C’mon, it would be rude. Or don’t you deserve a reward after six days of monk-like deprivation and twenty triumphs of willpower?
Or perhaps you’re psyching up for a lose-30-pounds-in-a-month all-out sprint to get “hot” for your high-school reunion, and you can’t wait to reach your goal weight like it’s a finish line - a triumph to be celebrated (with eating an entire pizza)! Winning or losing… triumph or defeat… success or failure… this is the language of weight loss today. And this language is guaranteed to set you up to fail (there’s that word again).
In my next post, I’ll suggest a different language for how to lose 30 pounds… for life. For until we begin working with our brain and how it learns - instead of fighting it - and change our focus away from weight loss as a success goal, we are doomed to ¬_ _ _ _ (there’s that ugly word one last time).
The real battlefield (that’s another ugly word) isn’t in the gym or at the dinner table. Ir’s between your ears. And we’re going to start a journey together with only one success goal - to make your brain happy. Everything else will fall into line.
And if you’re in a rush to get started, check out my quick-start guide to make how to lose 30 pounds more achievable and sustainable.
