Suffering an injury can be a stressful time in your life no matter what the circumstances are. If you have suffered an injury which was caused through no fault of your own, you may be entitled to compensation. When making a personal injury claim, there are always many things which you have to consider. One of the more common personal injury claims comes as a result of a road accident. When people are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road accident, there are usually many questions which they would like to ask. Here are the questions and answers to those which are frequently asked.
If you are in a car accident you will need to report the accident to the DMV as you are required to by law. It is strongly recommended that you do not under any circumstances give a recorded statement to anybody, or admit responsibility for the accident – even if you were to blame. Instead you should only talk to your attorneys about the situation. If you are injured in the accident, take photos of your injuries so they can be used as evidence. Creating a “diary” of sorts of your injuries is always recommended as you will be able to show any prolonged effects that they have caused.
As well as taking photos of your injuries, you will need to keep a diary of the pain and side effects which you suffer from. This along with the photographic evidence will help build up a good case for your claim. Immediately after the accident, you may not be in any pain or discomfort. This is not unusual, due to the body producing adrenaline which acts as a pain killer when it has suffered a trauma. Even if you are not in any pain, you need to ride in the ambulance and go to the hospital to be checked over by the doctors.
In order to make your personal injury compensation claim, you will usually need to have recovered, or completed your medical treatment. Medical treatment can include physiotherapy sessions and even gym memberships if you have been advised to do so to help your body recover from the trauma that it has suffered. Once you have the costs that you have incurred, the settlement figure is then tallied up by your legal advisor. Once your personal injury claim has been made, you will then need to wait a few months in most cases before receiving a settlement.
