If you want to learn magic it is important to understand that most simple magic tricks are just that - simple. The "magic" is hidden in the fact that people will be misdirected and not see how you hide a coin, or pull out a card, for example.

Today there are lots of books and video clips on the Internet where you can find out how a magic trick is done.

One would think that would take the "magic" out of magic - anyone can become a magician by googling the trick, one would assume?

As an amateur magician you can amaze and baffle your friends even in this modern age! Most people think and react emotionally and that is used to fool them.

People love to be entertained, even deceived, if it is done right. Keep in mind that people are the same today as they were hundreds of years ago.

Just as Italians in Florence in 1677 were amazed by a street magician picking a rabbit out of a hat, so are we baffled when a street entertainer makes a card disappear.

Here's a trick involving cards - a volunteer picks out a card and gives it to you. You do not look at it, but can still pick it out after the pack has been shuffled. Turn the cards over, and pick out the card they choose!

The secret? Take the card they've picked - with the back to you - use your thumb nail to make a small impression in the card. This will make an indentation in the card, easy for you to feel!

First one of two easy magic tricks - simple? Yes. Effective? You bet!

Here's another surprisingly easy yet effective trick - the "Ash Writing Trick". A volunteer writes a name on a sheet of paper, the paper is burnt and the ashes rubbed on your arm - the name appears!

The secret?

The name is written on the top sheet of paper. With practice you can learn to read the faint impression of the name on the sheet under.

You will learn to divert peoples attention, and quickly write the name with a small piece of soap on your arm. The name shows up because the ash sticks to the soap!

Two magic tricks revealed - basically very simple.

The key is to practice, and practice even more!

You must be able to perform without thinking about the trick!
