Because of this, SEOs are advised to be aware of the updates and changes that search engines regularly make. And so, here are the latest happenings on the major search engines that you should be familiar with. Major player Google, for most of its part, has not done any major changes for this years with regards to its search engine. The only thing of note that the search engine has done is the so called “Caffeine” update that is announced last month. According to Google's Matt Cutts, the update is intended to improve the way the search engine indexes pages in its directories. According to Cutts, the update is meant to improve the engine's efficiency. He, however, assured that the update will not have any major immediate effects on the searches done. On the other hand, many of the recent news about Google is on the corporate side, with its many acquisitions in the past few months, like On, a video compression software. Many of these new purchases will not have any effects on searches, so you need not to worry abound this one that much. However, this might be totally different once Google makes use of those acquisitions, so it would be a good idea to wait and see what comes off it in the long run. On the other side of the fence, the biggest news about Yahoo! Recently is its deal with Bing, Microsoft's search engine service. According to the agreement that the two companies have reached, Bing will now be the one powering Yahoo's searches. As expected, many SEOs and users have expressed their fears about how the deal might affect them. And it does have a major effect on searches. For one, Yahoo and Bing have vastly different indexing algorithms. This means that, once Bing kicks in, you can expect that the search results will be totally different from the day before. And this will surely give users and SEO's a lot of headaches. However, according to Microsoft officials, it will probably take at least two years before Yahoo! Search can be totally taken over by Bing's results. This gives you plenty of time to adjust your searches to fit the changes. As for the other search engines, many have come and gone in the last two years . Most have either been bought by other search engines, while others have been totally dissolved. AOL, for example, have now finally broken its ties with Times Warner. However, since many of these search engines occupy a relatively small portion of the whole SE market, you won't need to be bothered by them.
