By spending some time thinking about how to do it properly, you can increase your chances of losing weight and get rid of those stubborn love handles!
Here are three very basic hints on how to slim down.
Unfortunately, most people who actually lose love handles and weight gain it back quite quickly. The statistics are grim - those that manage to lose weight almost always put it back on again!
You can do it even if others can't by using these simple tips:
Tip 1: Don't just jump in dieting, do some planning and researching before hand. It's OK to have big goals, but they must be achievable. The vision is so far away you feel you can't get there. The majority of people who manage to lose weight put it back on again fairly quickly. and one big reason is that they set their goals too high.
You may have decided to start a "new life" and became healthy and slim. Maybe your normal evening meal after work is a ready made meal - you're really worn out after work so you can't be bothered with anything fancy - don't start eating only a salad with water. After a day or two your body'll crave more "filling" food, food that it is used to.
Instead make one small change - put olive spread on instead of butter, a few days later drink water instead of Coke, then again later substitute wholegrain bread for white and so on.
See the principle? Make one small change at a time, let it take time, and you'll find that a few weeks later you actually eat healthier. Without struggling, in fact practically effortlessly!
Tip 2: Give some thoughts to your habits. Overweight people always have some bad habits that contribute to their weight problems. One noticeable thing is that overweight persons often eat between the main meals. And the snack is usually not very healthy. Shopping trolleys filled with "junk" are often pushed by overweight people .... it is usually filled with chips, ready made meals, chocolates, biscuits and so forth.
It is - of course - not easy to change, so just change one small bit to begin with. Don't try to skip the afternoon snack - maybe you can have something more healthy to snack on. Instead of coffee with sugar and a cookie, try coffee without sugar. And if black coffee doesn't work, try squash, or tea, and a sweet fruit. Your body's used to a "sugar rush" and you still provide it but with healthier foodstuff.
Tip 3: Either get rid of temptations or give in to them! This sounds strange, I know, but if you choose "good" temptations it is OK. If you are slim but not happy, then there's something not right? Rather a little over your ideal weight but happy, wouldn't you agree? Attempt to make your temptation something special.
If your temptation is half a bottle of wine, and you always have a few bottles around - buy one really good, expensive wine, and just have one glass of it. Enjoy the smell, the richness of it, really try to let it linger on your palate. You usually get what you pay for, so buy really high quality, luxury, items.
And, if your passion is chocolate, stop buying low cacao brands with only 35 - 40% cocoa. Get a really luxurious, expensive, dark black chocolate and enjoy it sparingly. Let it slowly melt on your tongue, don't chew and swallow it, savour it as long as you can! This way you'll be happier, you have given in to your temptation and it has actually made your life better!
