Safdarjung Airport in Delhi host the main venue for 'Balloon Mela'(Balloon fair) organise every year by the balloon club of India. Several competitions and events are part of this fair.
Other locations for hot air ballooning in the country are Pink city of Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park, the holy town of Pushkar, Agra-the city of Taj Mahal, verdant valleys of Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun etc.
Best Time For:
The most suitable time for hot air ballooning is from October to March because during this period temperature remains cool. The cold climate helps the hot air inside the balloon to become lighter and enables the balloon to rise high and remain stay up for a longer period.
Physical Requirements:
The major requirement for hot air ballooning is that the participant must be physically and mentally fit. Pregnant ladies, patients of high blood pressure, heart problems and person having phobia of heights must remain away from it.
Essential Equipments :
The prime equipment required for this adventure sport is a balloon which is made up of rip-stop nylon. It is a special fire resistant material. Other equipments are basket or gondola load tape, steel wire ropes, an altimeter, a compass, cylinders of propane or butane gas, burners, ropes.
The basket or gondola, which is suspended below the balloon, is made up of resilient wicker and enforced with a mesh of steel wire ropes.
