Note: Be sure to lay down drop cloths to cover counter tops, floors and appliances that you were unable to move. The best job will be accomplished with appliances removed to gain easy access to all parts of cabinets. Use newspaper along with 1" masking tape to cover counter tops, edges, and anything else that you need to protect when applying primer and finish. A very cheap way to be safe.
If you completed Home Improvement steps 1, 2, 3, How to Refinish Your Kitchen Cabinets, that means your almost done with your new kitchen cabinets. Lets get this project done.
Make sure everything you primed is completely dry. A quick inspection will allow you to see And feel the front of the doors and also the face and sides of all the cabinets.
Looking will let you see if you missed any repairs, giving you a final chance to take care of that, and feeling lets you know if any further Light sanding has to be done. If you feel any areas that feel gritty to the touch, these should be lightly sanded smooth, be careful not to sand through the primer.
Once your satisfied, and have wiped any dust from further sanding, its time to complete the inside of your doors. So, at this point you'll want to turn your doors over onto their fronts and begin to roll on the finish. Just like rolling paint on a wall, keep the roller wet with "paint".
The finish dries fast so you need to keep any fans off, including air conditioning. It may take some practice to get the finish to "blend", so you don't see roller overlay marks. This is a good place to get the correct amount of paint on.
Put a little more paint on than you did primer. Depending on your door and cabinet condition, you may need 2 or more coats. Normal coverage should be accomplished in 2 coats. There is no right or wrong. Just be sure not to apply the paint too heavy.
Note: This is a finish that continues to harden for up to 10 days, but it dries enough to work with ( hang doors) in a couple of hours. Cabinets can be re-stocked after 24-48 hours. If you get any "runs", its better to let them dry for 2-3 days, sand them out, and then repaint and they will blend very good.
As you did when priming, after all the door insides are covered, begin on the inside upper cabs, inside lowers, then back to upper outside (face and sides), and finish up with the lowers.
You may have to wait a bit for the door insides to completely dry, but when they're dry, turn them over and paint the fronts. Let everything dry, be sure they're not tacky before you reinstall the door hardware.
After your door hardware is installed, take one upper door at a time and install it. Just continue until all your doors are reinstalled, install hardware on drawers, slide drawers in place and take a step back and admire the professional looking cabinets you now have.
