Bungie Studios published their weekly update as regular. This update was significantly much more intriguing though. Bungie decided to finally put to bed a couple of rapidly growing rumors about Halo: Reach. Like what the boys and girls at Bungie normally allow to materialize, wild accusations and presumptions about the gameplay of Halo: Reach were raised and held for some months. One can understand not putting out the flame that will only bring in more green ultimately but Bungie finally felt enough was enough.

Urk, the top author over at Bungie.net starts the news out with the usual half-sarcasm and witty remarks. Not more that two paragraphs down though, business is called to order. The title reads " Halo: Reach Mythbusters" and what followed was pretty clear. Many of these myths and rumors primarily reside around one image that was released, the only one that seemed to show an in-game HUD.

In this particular image, the HUD featured what appeared to be a pixelated feature that bungie was not about to reveal to us. This alone sparked interest in whether there might be a new perk or add-on functionality, akin to the perk system applied in Infinity Ward's highly flourishing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Another seriously talked about and debated facet of the image was the location of the radical or aimer. It seemed to be more to the left, definitely not in the middle position. This ignited rumors of Natal being used.

Natal is an abbreviation for Project Natal, Microsoft's codename new xbox 360 add-on that will let gamers loose the controller and use motion, gestures and voice to play video games. Apparently it would be extremely hard to play a first-person shooter with an off-centered radical that seemed to move. It makes sense to speculate that Natal could be carried out in this instance. Among those rumors there are also a slew of others that were addressed in that weekly update, such as the yellow HUD, assault rifle and pistol ammo, being able to fly the Falcon.Unnecessary to emphasize, most of these rumors got countered one by one by a direct response to each rumor. Urk clarifies this:

Halo: Reach is different from a Natal title and is being improved expressly with the conventional Xbox 360 controller in mind.

My apology fellows, you won't be always leaning to the left nor will you be navigating multiple cross-hairs for various purposes. Truth be told, it's simply a good ole fashioned bug.

With regard to the pixelated spot on the HUD, merely UI text that wasn't necessary for the whole public to view was pixelated, but most likely known by the creator that it would be interpreted as Bungie concealing a new feature. In terms of Yellow HUD, Urk has this to share:

The same pre-alpha build without feature final textures, geometry or decorators also encompassed one of many earlier versions of the HUD (which even now is still getting tweaked and modified). Right now yellow is no longer in effect and sources say it won't be returning, either.

What moral do we derive from this? Take info you read on the internet with a large grain of salt, that is to say, refrain from believing everything you encounter and read. Not only can third-parties fabricate or take one fact and hype it as far as possible but the holder of the truth, Bungie Studios themselves, can encourage rumors and hype with the flick of their wrists.
