The highest peak among the seven hills of Macau, Guia Hill is a scenic place to explore. Some interesting historical elements act as the catalyst for its tourist attraction potential, but for locals, it's mostly a place for jogging and enjoying nature. You can either run to the top or take a ride on the Guia cable car. Guia Hill stretches for quite a distance and it's very likely you won't see anything of significance or interest until you reach the highest point. Athletic courts, playground and jogging paths are abundant on the hill, but it's after passing all this that you'll come to the point of main interest on the Guia Hill. The trails are densely packed with greenery and at the end of them, you reach the Guia Fort.

The Guia Fort was built in 1638, but was opened for public viewing only after 1976. The Guia Lighthouse is also located here, on the naturally set ground elevation. The lighthouse is the oldest such structure located along the Chinese coast. Dating back from 1865, the lighthouse has a radius of 20 miles and is the central reference point for Macau city coordinates. Next to the lighthouse, you'll find a quaint little chapel, originating from 1622. The Chapel of Our Lady of Guia and the Guia Lighthouse share the simple style and color scheme, consisting of an off-white exterior and beige trimming.

Outside the chapel, overlooking the mountainous area, you'll see some spectacular views of Macau. Most tourists come here to relax and enjoy some peace and serenity away from the highly dynamic Macau city. Early mornings are breathtakingly beautiful when viewed from the top of Guia Hill and if you are not an early riser, take the cable car ride in the evening to watch a lovely sunset.

The Guia Hill is located within a short distance from the Macau ferry terminal, but the streets are a huge maze and you could easily get lost if you are not familiar with the territory. Ask your hotel concierge for the best way to get to Guia Hill. If you stay at a luxury hotel in Macau, make sure you get an itinerary for exploring Macau from them. The Sands Macau Resort Hotel is an excellent option, for both accommodation and concierge services.
