I left the fun and madness of Disneyland Orland and headed south to Miami for our 480 mile trip to Grand Cayman one of the three Cayman Islands. My flight had been overbooked and in return for not taking the flight my friends and I received £1500 us dollars in compensation. Just as well really as once we reached the Cayman Islands we would need it as the prices were unbelievable. On arrival at the hotel, which was amazing I booked a wakeup call for the next day which never came then or any other day. At reception I enquired as to why this was and I was told 'this is the Caribbean you don't need a wakeup call just chill out!! I guess they were right.
Grand Cayman really was paradise with breath-taking sea views and loads to do. I went out on a jet sky on day and had loads of fun. I also went on a submarine which was amazing sharks and turtles swimming by. The pilot took as right up to the edge of the Cayman Wall made famous by the film The Abyss. Seven miles down into the darkness and I was quite relived when we headed for the surface again. On another day I hired a moped and headed off to explore the island. I found a little village called HELL and stopped at the most amazing beach I'd ever seen. There were two divers just coming out of the sea and I asked if the water was safe and they said yes it fine. Si I spent the day on the beach and jumping waves – great fun.
The Cayman people like all Caribbean countries are so friendly and laid back. The place is a world renowned offshore financial centre and many nationalities have made the Cayman Islands home.
All of whom I spoke to were so grateful to be living in paradise. The only down side to the place was the cost of drinks etc. so beware take plenty of cash with you. You can find an abundance of restaurants off the beaten track serving authentic Caribbean food – a great way to meet the locals and experience some fantastic dishes.
All in all a fantastic place whether you just want to relax and take in the amazing scenery or enjoy the abundance of water sports and other activities.
