"Going Green" is a term many people are familiar with but may not know the meaning of. It simply means conserving energy and using alternative means necessary to do so. Leaving lights on is simply a waste of money and energy unless you leave them on for safety purposes. And even then you can purchase a timer so the lights are only operational when the sun sets. Make sure your home has the proper insulation. With the up to date technology homes are cooler in the summer and are able to prevent the cold air from entering your home in the winter. Many older homes and apartments have horrible insulation which contributes to large electricity bills and more cash out of your pocket.

Invest in energy efficient appliances in your kitchens and bathrooms. For example, Energy Star Dishwashers use 50% less energy and water they customer may see large savings over time. Also make sure you fill up the dishwasher to the limit. Loading it up partially over times can be more costly. That goes for the washer and dryer as well. Also you don't need to use hot water. Special detergents have been made for this purpose. Now your washer will not need to waste energy by heating up the water for the spin cycle. Remember NOT to stock your refrigerator and freezer full of items. There will not be enough air to circulate throughout the interior and it will require more energy to keep the food cold.
