I’ve lived all over the country, and I’ve learned a few important lessons. One thing I’ve found out is if you live in an area where snow, wind, and rain are an issue, or even the hot, blazing sun -- you need to have a place to park your car that protects it (and you) from the harsh elements. And not every house you buy or rent in different areas of the country will have enough garage space (or even a garage at all) to park your car in. If you find yourself without a cozy place to keep your auto, think about buying a metal carport or garage.
These structures are very cool. Metal carports are available in a number of different sizes and styles. They’re also easy to order and install. Metal buildings are actually made of steel, making them strong and durable, and they’re available virtually anywhere. To install one, all you need is a concrete slab or level piece of ground in your yard. Many steel building companies will even deliver and install your metal garage or carport for you.
Unsure of the options? There are many. A single car metal carport or garage is generally around 12 feet wide, 21 feet long, and about five feet tall. A carport or garage for two vehicles will be about the same dimensions, but six feet wider. Even wider metal carports and garages can be purchased which can accomodate three or more cars, if you own an entire fleet.
If you don’t like the stock metal bulding, fifferent roof and eave designs and varying colors can be ordered for to suit your needs, along with a choice of steel gauge, usually 12 or 14. If things like gauges confuse you, just remember that the lower the number, the stronger the guage of steel, but also the higher the cost. This makes 14 guage a more cost efficient option for many people. Metal rooves are usually of a lighter guage of steel, such as 29.
Metal garage and carport designs also offer the option of vertical roof panels which run from the peak side of the carport to aid with drainage. This is useful in areas that see higher than average rain or snowfall. Other options for metal carports and garages include gable ends for the front, back, or for both ends of the structure, which adds to the aesthetic value of the metal building. If it is in a highly visible area, this will add a little curb appeal. This can be a very important consideration for someone who wants to install a metal carport or garage right next to their home and doesn’t want to detract from its value.
Stylish metal sides can be put on carports as well to better protect you and your automobile from the wind and weather. This will also make them more attractive. Steel structure companies can also anchor your carport with mobile home anchors or concrete to add stability and safety, if you like. Think outside the box when ordering your metal building, because steel carports or garages can house more than just cars. They can also hold RV’s, boats, motorcycles, ATV’s, or snowmobiles.
Be sure to do your research to assure that the metal building company you choose has the right one to suit your needs. Other questions to ask include shipping and installation costs and any additional costs that may be added for modifications, styles, and colors. Also inquire about warranty or repairs and how they are handled. Most important, find out how long it will take to install your metal structure. Your metal garage or carport could be up and running within two weeks or less from the date on which it is ordered, keeping you and your car warm, safe, and dry.
