There is so much information and products on weight loss nowadays that it makes me think everyone should have six pack abs. No, really, have you seen all those miracle stuff ? Not so miraculous it seems. Either it is advices from experts who knows all, magazines belonging to drugs companies who promote their magic pills, or super electronic gadgets that do the work for you... How can we fail ? Of course we've been lied to. Just for this time, you'll have some real information about getting six pack abs.

Question : So how can you get that super sexy belly ?

If you answered "With all sort of specific abs exercises such as crunches and sit-ups", you are far from the truth.

You need to burn fat, you need to get your body fat percentage low enough so your abs become visible. So, of course, abs specific exercises develop your abs, they make it grow, just like you would exercise your biceps. But there is no fat (or almost none) around your biceps, which makes it easy to have those visible when you flex them. It's not the case with our abs that are, covered with fat, and abs exercises don't burn much fat.

Next question : How to burn fat ?

Perform cardio for long enough. Did you really answer that ? It's wrong again, and not very practical when your schedule doesn't allow you to do hours and hours of running.

Cardio the way we are used to, doesn't burn much fat. We are told to jump on a treadmill or go running at a steady pace, keeping a comfortable rythm as long as wa can. Well it will actually burn fat... only during the time you perform it, or after the few first sessions, if you are a beginner who is not used to exercise. But your body gets used very fast to these kind of (boring) cardio. You will not burn much fat and not for very long, your metabolism will elevate a little bit and soon after go back to its normal activity.

So the solution is to burn enough fat so that your body fat percentage becomes low enough. As a general rule, men should reach 10% body fat percentage, while woman should go for about 16% to start seeing their six pack abs. If you've been training your abs, then you already have a six pack, it's just hidden !

You will need to perform workouts and cardio of a higher intensity to shock your metabolism so it burns the fat as a fuel for energy. Train your whole body and particularly the biggest muscle groups to maintain your muscle mass and burn fat faster. Your nutrition is also very important, but that's another story.
