The theory behind the Law of Attraction is actually one of the fundamental principles of the Buddhist religion. Basically this theory states that you become whatever you think about and focus on with feeling. This concept gives you complete control of your own destiny- what you send out to the universe is what you will receive. There are four basic steps to the Law of Attraction.

First, you have to decide what your desires are. Secondly, you need to rid yourself of negative thoughts about your current situation and generally have a positive outlook. Then you have to act as though you deserve to attain your desires and that you already have what it is that you want in life. Finally you will need to allow yourself to be open to receiving it. These are the fundamental steps to the Law of Attraction; with a little planning you can adapt and apply these to your career goals.

You can use the principles of the Law of Attraction to attract anything into your life. You can use it to find a job, get a promotion, change careers and build a better relationship with your co-workers; in fact you can use them for any aspect of your career. Let’s take a look at how this can work, step by step. The first step, deciding what your desires are, is quite straightforward. Take a little time to think about your career goals; would you like to change careers, or stay in the job you are in. Would you like a promotion or just to achieve better sales? Are there some colleagues you need to be able to get on with better, or conflicts with your boss you need to resolve? Write down your career goals, but write them as if they have already happened. For example, if a promotion is your goal, write down ‘I achieved promotion and am now working as (the job title you wish to attain)’.

The second step may be slightly more difficult. You will need to get rid of any negative thoughts about your career situation as much as possible. You need to keep in mind that the energy that you send out must be positive. If you continually think about how bad your job is, how awful your co workers are and how difficult it is to get a promotion, all you will do is attract more of these things you don’t want into your life.

The third step states that you need to believe that you deserve to attain your career goals and you must act as though you have already achieved your goals. This doesn’t mean that you have to tell your boss to vacate his office- one good technique is to use visualization techniques- take some time each day (preferably several times a day) to imagine yourself in your new position, having attained the promotion. See yourself carrying out your new duties with an air of confidence; see your new increased pay check, and see yourself receiving the respect of your colleagues and family. Then imagine how this would make you feel- this sends out powerful signals to the universe and starts the process of attracting the goal to you.

If you are struggling with the belief that you deserve it, using simple affirmation techniques such as looking at yourself in the mirror, smiling and saying ‘I deserve it’ out loud will help. Alternatively try writing down all the reasons why you deserve to get the promotion- write down all the skills you have acquired, plus the relevant qualifications you hold. Reading this regularly will help to reaffirm to yourself that you deserve it.

The final step is to be open to receiving it. It is important not to let any doubts creep in at this stage- even if there is no sign of your goal materializing, keep believing that it is on its way. Feel grateful that it will be yours, and if you get a hunch to do something, make sure you act on it. Often the universe sends us instructions to take ‘inspired action’ to bring about the things we want.

Once your career goal has materialized, give thanks to the universe- this will bring more and more into your life to be grateful for.
