It is only a matter of time of course. Any deviancy, hardship, or under-performance will be blamed on inadequate DNA. Holding genes responsible for all failings gives the little minds of the world – [those who believe in global warming, the gay gene, that Islam is peaceful etc.] – taxpayer money for ‘studies’; ready excuses for being a group of losers; and a post-modern exit from high culture. It is in fact an important part of Marxist post-modern thought.
At the core of post-modern theory is the idea that man is perfectible and societal perfection is effected through state education and state control. This concept flows of course from socialist and Marxist theory [including Hitlerite and Communist philosophy, yes Nazism is a left wing ideal], that men and women can achieve greatness and escape the middling drudgery of capitalist-liberal-middle class existence, if only they are given a shove or a kick in the right direction. Anyone who fails to become part of the post-modern ubermenschen suffers from genetic deficiencies. The state can’t be blamed.
This idea also dovetails nicely with the post modern ethos that no-one is responsible for anything. It does not matter what the illness, malady, crime or deviant behavior is, the person doing the act is a victim. From blacks committing two-thirds of violent crimes; to female teachers raping their male students; to homosexuality and sex change freaks; on to head-chopping, car bombing Muslims; offenders and criminals are portrayed as helpless victims. Post modern, anti-rational thought blames either society, whites or genes for all hardships.
So it will come to pass with fat and obesity. Here are some common excuses for people having the body of a pear; or the skeletal formation of a basketball. They retain water. They store fat lipids more than others. They suffer from low metabolism. They are unlucky. They don’t have time to exercise. McDonald’s is to blame. My grandmother was fat. And so on.
If you have the body in the shape of a small asteroid you have only yourself to blame. Being fat, wretchedly obese, or being mistaken for a small car is your fault and your fault alone. There is no connection to genetic issues; lipid storage; or meaningless excuses such as ‘I am too busy to work-out’ or ‘I really need to relax and spend 4 hours watching American idol reruns.’
Though some people are pushing hard for the fat gene theory to excuse and any all forms of personal health responsibility, there is no evidence [as with the gay gene] that it exists. Even Tufts University trying ever so hard as a good liberal institution should, to prove the existence of a fat gene [or genes] as the cause for ghastly girth expansion admits: ‘Yet there is no one “fat gene” that decides whether you will be a supermodel or super-sized. Metabolism involves hundreds, maybe thousands, of genes interacting in uncountable ways.’ No kidding.
Some people are naturally thin. Some are bigger boned and prone to heavier weight. Some are tall, some are short, some are stocky, and some are not. But being fat is something else and it is related to diet, exercise and respecting your body. We don’t all need to have bodies like Brad Pitt or Hallie Berrie but some common-sense around body maintenance is mandatory. If fat genes exist how can you explain the transformation of Hallie Berrie from a so-so body type to a hard one? Or the many examples of the average Joe losing 150 pounds through exercise, diet, personal training aid and self-discipline?
According to US studies, about 800 or so people die each day from not being fit. This may be an exaggeration but the cases of rising fatness are not. Being fit can mean many things but there is no doubt that the trend to obesity is alarming. You only need to walk outside and observe the moving ships of state that pass for human forms to confirm that 30-50% of the population is fat. This far exceeds historical levels. If fat genes exist then why is the current population trending towards Rosie O’Donnell and Al Gore body forms whilst in times past we looked a lot more like Steve McQueen or Johnny Weismuller?
For the post moderns fatness is just another ‘victim’ club to support. If you are fat you are instantly protected and various excuses thrown up to defend the indefensible. For the clattering mind-numbing Marxist being an over-sized biped cow, is just an unfortunate gene-induced accident. Of course the poor dears can’t lose the weight through diet, exercise and self-discipline. Society must bear the costs through higher health care bills and accepting another plank in the low-culture platform of disavowing personal responsibility.
And there is the main issue with the fat-gene and fat-excuse industry. By refusing to acknowledge personal choice and responsibility government funded institutes, political groups, and activists make society pay the price. We pay for it through higher taxes, lowered standards and then through such idiocies as reverse discrimination [you must have a few large ones on your payroll] or legal costs [we are suing you since you the evil capitalist employer did not give ms. one-world body here, that job promotion on the grounds that she is the size of a small planet…tsk tsk]. It would matter not if the small asteroid masquerading as a human was the best qualified for the job or not. You will be instantly branded a 'anti-fat'-phobe.
It will be interesting to see if the political Marxists that abuse tax payer money can scare up some supporting ‘evidence’ for the fat gene theory. Absolving personal responsibility and handing it over the mommy-state is of course a main priority for the savage cultural Marxists. Given their success in establishing the earth-cult [thanks to $100 billion in public spending and counting] the day may dawn when 50% of the pear-formed population are as lauded, protected and esteemed as sexual deviants and gays.
