Physical fitness is not really an option anymore. To have a healthy and long life you have to take care of your body and total body fitness is essential for all age groups. It isn’t just about looking great and flaunting your physique (although those are great perks as well!) but about the self confidence and well being that comes along with being fit inside and out. Complete body fitness comes from two very important aspects i.e. muscular fitness and cardiovascular fitness.
Muscular fitness which encompasses muscular strength as well as muscular endurance affects all aspects of your day to day activities, whether it is during workouts or something as simple as opening a tight jar. Muscular strength is not something only body-builders are supposed to concentrate on; it is the measure of the amount of force your muscles produce with resistance like when you lift a heavy object. Muscular endurance is a measure of how your muscles or a group of muscles sustain muscular contractions over a period of time seen for example when you do weight or strength training exercise repetitions. It is also a measure of how the muscle continues to contract over a period of time. So high muscular endurance will keep fatigue at bay, allowing you to repeat movements or hold a certain position for a longer time. Muscular fitness helps you burn more calories and also keeps your metabolism running high. It helps decrease the chances of injuries and keeps you looked toned and plays a part in other aspects like improving your posture and making you stronger.
Cardiovascular fitness is basically a reflection of how strong your heart is and how well your heart and lungs function in transporting oxygen and how that oxygen is utilized. Cardiovascular exercises or cardio exercises as it is commonly called are one of the most vital building blocks of your fitness regime. When you are sweating away on the treadmill, running or partaking in any cardio exercise your lungs and heart work harder to supply adequate oxygen to your body. Over time your system strengthens and you need a lesser amount of oxygen to do the same level and intensity of exercise and you can gradually increase the intensity of your workouts. This builds up your cardiovascular endurance. Cardiovascular fitness is proved to aid weight loss, burn fat, lower bad cholesterol or LDL and increase HDL levels or good cholesterol, help fight diabetes, prevent heart disease etc. and aids in a host of other physical benefits.
If complete body fitness is something you want to strive toward, joining a gym and getting proper guidance is a great way to start. Not only will you gain knowledge on the right techniques, correct form and sustainable workout programs, but also be able to get some guidance regarding a well-balanced nutritional plan as well; which will enhance your overall well-being and give you quicker and more long-term results.
