Being asked to take the photos at an up and coming wedding in Bedford is a great honour and responsibility and most important that you have the right equipment on hand. While most digital cameras these days are versatile and professional to produce excellent quality pictures there are still a number of other piece of equipment you should consider investing in.

The camera is your most essential piece of equipment; you would be worthwhile taking a spare along as well just in case. The last thing you want is to find your camera malfunctions and you are not ready with a spare.


Lenses and filters, to capture the magic of the day, and give it that extra special twist a number of wide angle, close up and fish eye lenses should be included. The addition of some colour filters and special effect filters are essential tools of the trade too.


Flash unit, whether taking photographs indoors or out, in dimly lit rooms or bright sunlight a flash is always a useful addition.


Tripod, this is a must for portraiture pictures, to make a steady platform on which to rest your camera. An auto release cable is also worth packing as it eliminates unnecessary shaking when you take the shot.


Include at least two memory cards of at least 1Gb each. If you are there throughout the day, the ceremony, photo shoot, wedding meal and the evening you will go through a lot of photographs.


Laptop is a good idea if you run out of space on you memory cards you can down load some photos and clear space. It can also be used to give the wedding party a sneak preview and maybe drum up some more trade.


Spare batteries for the cameras and flash unit, constant use may mean they run out quickly and take time to recharge, a couple of extra packets of batteries will make sure you are not caught short.


An umbrella, great for rainy days, good for bouncing light and useful to directing the crowds. Put it all into a couple of bags and you are ready for your photo shoot.
