The young Brazilian footballer who recently transferred from the Spaniard team Real Madrid to the English Premier League has already debuted for his new team and he seems to be providing a new bright perspective for this year’s campaign. There have been already five games which most teams have already concluded and the Manchester City is already position in the top five with a total amount of nine points just below Aston Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, these last two leading the standings.
When the season first began, Manchester City played against Aston Villa losing 4-2 at the Villa Park in Birmingham and one week later the Manchester defeated West Ham by 3 goals at the City of Manchester Stadium which became a real boost for the team, especially due to the news of Robinho’s arrival within days. The third game was played at Sunderland and Manchester once again took the points home winning by three goals.
On September 13th Manchester City awaited on Chelsea for a classic clash which many of us expected with a mixture of anxiety and passion, as it was Robinho’s first time on an English field. He started alongside with fellow Brazilian Jo and just as amazing as it may sound at the 12th minute Robinho’s short run sent the ball in scoring his first perfect goal. Only four minutes later Chelsea’s player - Carvalho – equalled the game 1-1. After the second half things began to look blurry for Manchester as Lampard scored a great second goal for Chelsea and only 10 minutes later they scored the third one which became the game’s finale. Robinho’s grand debut was clouded by the loss but both, the managers and players knew this would soon change.
More recently Manchester played at home, at the Manchester Stadium, against Portsmouth. A match worth watching as the stadium roared with thirst for a first victory conducted by Robinho and so it was. Manchester scored two goals in the first half by Jo and Dunne and the remaining four in the second half were scored by all-time favourite Robinho, Wright-Phillips, Evans and Fernandes...Robinho’s input created the first goal as well with sharp perfection and offensive attack. Despite the doubts many have brought to the table regarding the expensive acquisition of the Brazilian and his different game style not suiting the physical demands of the Premier League could now be place away as the player seems to have a solid and steady future in the Eastlands.
Moreover it has been only close to two weeks that Robinho has played in the Premier League and he has already scored twice in two games and we need to say it is a very good sign as it is clear he feels comfortable and invigorated playing for his new team – Manchester City.
There is no question we are witnessing a new era for Manchester City as only this month; the club was purchased by an investors’ group of Arab origin. This was also the main reason Manchester was able to renegotiate the pricing with Real Madrid in order to have the permission to transfer the Brazilian player. Manchester’s next rival will be Wigan Athletic, an away game for the locals which will be played on September 28th.
