Common sense tells us that an overtired brain will not function to the same capacity as one that is rested and refreshed but a new study has proven this fact and those studied who took a nap were able to link random facts and solve puzzles much more effectively than those who hadn’t. This study actually showed something completely new which was that prospective memory, in other words remembering to do something in the future, improved dramatically after a full night of good sleep.
This strengthening of the memory is a great reason to take sleep very seriously so if you’re one of those that sleeps just because it’s part of the routine but you go to bed very late and get up very early or you don’t have a good routine, now is the time to change all that and put some effort into getting those all important eight hours.
It’s not just crosswords and problem solving that you should find easier after a decent sleep but also challenges at work or at home and the old saying that everything looks better after a good night’s sleep isn’t an old saying for nothing. Sleep is a really important factor to performing at your optimum in life and past studies have shown that those that stick to a good sleeping routine are likely to be more content and more successful than those who have disturbed sleep patterns. Various health risks have been associated with poor quality sleep and that’s why it’s so important to invest in a good bed and a good mattress and create an environment that is conducive to sleep.
Beds and mattresses don’t have to cost the earth these days thanks to the reduced overheads of e-commerce so it’s not a case of choosing between your bank balance and the comfort of your bed, it’s about buying the right beds and mattresses on your budget. There are so many different mattress and bed types that it can be a bit of minefield so the best place to start is by doing some research, reading some reviews and setting yourself a budget and you’ll be on your way to a great night’s sleep and a crossword prize before you know it.
Giving your brain a proper rest is the only way to let it recharge itself properly, energy drinks and the like are no substitute and if you don’t sleep well it might be time for a change of mattress or changing your routine and sticking to it for at least two weeks to give it a chance of kicking in.
