Recovery is day-by-day

Just a reminder that it’s very rare for anyone to kick or throw or hit a goal from the back line. You move the ball forward toward your goal through teamwork.

It’s the same here. We allow a pretty free rein, but we nudge the discussion along when we feel it’s stuck in a rut or risks becoming a negative feedback loop. There are mentors there as well as victims, survivors and recoverers, at all stages of the upward spiral to eventual success.

You can opt to receive posts to the group by individual messages, daily or weekly digests. We don’t recommend weekly digests because they become too large and overwhelming, and you risk missing out on participating in discussions that are really relevant to you.

Never forget the old saying… “by the yard it’s hard, but by the inch it’s a cinch.” One day at a time. And celebrate every step forward.

Danger… fanatics at large!

I know, I know… we’ve warned you repeatedly about the dangers of becoming snared by fanatics, at either extreme of the counterfeit pendulum swing. But that’s because it’s so deceptively easy to fall into that trap without realising it.

Fanaticism is the hallmark of most counterfeit “MLM”s. They have a passionate belief in the company they’ve chosen. They’ve invested huge amounts of emotion in that decision, and they’re constantly justifying that decision, in spite of their lack of progress and rising losses. Their logic, although sound, is based on flawed foundations – premises that no rational person would accept under normal circumstances. But these people are not in normal circumstances.

Arguing does no good, because their position isn’t rational to begin with… it’s purely emotional. The more rational your arguments are, the more emotional and irrational their defensive responses become. They’ll defend their irrational position to the death (of any relationship between you) and vehemently blame YOU for any failures they encounter.

These are the same people who, once they’re finally forced by their own disasters to recognise and accept that their original, emotional decision was a mistake, swing to the other extreme, and become rabidly anti-MLM, using the same techniques, self-justification, twisted logic and flawed foundations to try to argue that ALL MLM companies are scams, and that there can’t be a good or legitimate MLM business because it’s a fatally flawed business model.

Can you see the trap here?

They’ve totally missed the reality of the situation. They’ve never actually encountered or experienced a REAL network marketing company! They were hoodwinked by fakes, and now they’ve fallen into the same trap, all over again, by clinging to decisions that are based on emotion, not reason. On what they WANT to be true, not what’s factual.

So… apart from their foaming-at-the-mouth hatred of all things MLM, how are they really different to those they oppose – the “MLMers”?

* They use emotional blackmail and manipulation, irrational premises, factual distortion, sophistry, personal abuse and other cultish practices to entice people to join them and keep them emotionally bonded.
* They’re totally closed-minded. Nothing they hear or see will dissuade them from their emotionally-held position. They won’t even consider an alternative viewpoint. Anyone suggesting that they could possibly be wrong or misguided is attacked as a fraud or a fool.

But haven’t we seen all that before? Aren’t these the exact same practices that so many of the “MLMers” who sponsored these people used when they recruited them into “MLM”?

Fascism and communism are opposite ends of the same political pendulum swing. But both are still totalitarian philosophies and both are utterly opposed to freedom, especially freedom of expression. So it stands to reason that counterfeit “MLM” would be fanatically opposed by a counterfeit “refuge” — where the inmates run the asylum.

No matter how much you may wish otherwise, and blind yourself to reality, there are some things that are always true…

* Emotion is never a substitute for reason.
* Opinion is never a substitute for fact.
* Rationalisation is never a substitute for objectivity.
* Emotional manipulation is never a substitute for persuasion.
* Logic and cunning are never substitutes for intelligence.
* Merely wanting something to be true will never make it the truth.

Are there ANY good MLMs?

As we saw in “‘MLM’ is not the problem”, trying to use counterfeits to prove there are NO genuine articles in any other industry or profession would get you ridiculed as a crackpot. The very fact that counterfeits exist at all is clear proof in itself that there are positive, desirable realities that they’re imitating. Otherwise, what are they faking?

(Have you ever noticed how often fake “MLM/network marketing” organisations tell you to “fake it ’til you make it”? Interesting. Think that might be a clue?)

In a nutshell, the answer to the question is a resounding “Yes, BUT…!”

They’re very few and far between. I mean, you can easily count them on the fingers of one hand. And don’t make the mistake of assuming that the sincerity and integrity of the owners or the people in their networks makes them genuine MLM/network marketing businesses. Sincerity and integrity are just the starting point for owners and leaders in any genuine, Fourth Generation system.

What really sets a Fourth Generation™ system uniquely apart is the basis of the relationship between the company and the network. That means, specifically

* the compensation plan and
* the formal agreement that exists between them – usually some kind of Policies and Procedures, Rules of Conduct. Terms and Conditions of Membership, etc.

ONLY when those two documents are genuinely Fourth Generation™ in their character can that MLM/network marketing opportunity be said to be truly Fourth Generation… REAL network marketing.

Anything less than this is a pale imitation… a counterfeit or fake. No matter how honest and admirable the intentions of those involved may be, the fact is that those owners and leaders don’t understand WHY the system works. They’ll know all about HOW it works – the structures, the practices, the compensation plan, etc – but they won’t have a clue about the principles, values and standards that lie at the heart of all Fourth Generation systems.
