Sweat block is any version of excessive sweating control that limits or stop sweating in certain areas of the body. The concept is to target a specific problem area like the underarms for example so that you won't sweat or so that sweat won't be seen.
Some versions of sweat block target the actual sweat glands while others shield or soak up the sweat so it's not visible to others.
There are some commercial products and even surgery options that will stop or severely limit sweat glands to actually sweat. These actually are fairly safe and fairly effective. Many require once a week applications before bedtime normally to the armpit area and will block pores from sweating for a limited time. Some are proprietary formulas while others are just very strong antiperspirants.
For the most part these treatment options are safe. You never want to block too many sweat glands in the body because it's healthy and necessary to sweat during the day. If you stop sweating in one area of the body, there is always the chance that the sweat will show up in some other place because inside the body there is something in the body telling your glands to sweat more. So the problem is really an internal one versus and external one.
Another type of a sweat block are shields, pads, and guards. Many of these are actually put into clothing like nice dress shirts, dresses, and jackets. They will block and absorb sweat so that the wetness doesn't get to your outer garment causing that social embarrassment. These do work fairly well although it doesn't do much for odor control as the sweat is still there.
Blocking sweat is an option if you are a casual sweater who needs to for an evening guard against sweat. But if you have a sweating problem, it's best to look into solving the reason why you are sweating so much in the first place.
