With a growing number of pet owners contemplating the connection of their dog's health to what he eats, they are wondering about the best dog food brands.The simple answer is to find the best dog food brands you just need to look at the ingredients listed on the labels.
I wish it was that easy, but the deceptive wording used by the dog food industry makes it a bit more difficult.
In reality, it is easier to find healthy foods for yourself than to find healthy dog foods brands.
The problem is the pet food manufactories are allowed to use ingredients that are marked not fit for human consumption in their products. It is sad that in today's world those who manufacture dog food can use low quality by product ingredients and due to government regulations give the brand high quality healthy sounding names.
Most people would think when the read the ingredient dried egg product on their dog food label, that that would be a healthy ingredient. What it really means is egg shells of all kinds and other tissues that cannot be consumed by human beings, may be found in it.
While doing my research to find the best dog food brands, I ran across a list of 68 ingredients that are used by some of the best brands, that should give you cause to stop feeding these brand to your dog. Nearly halve of these 68 ingredients are unhealthy and will leave to a shortening of your dogs life if consumed on a regular basis.
I also found a free confidential dog food report written by a guy that has hired a testing firm to find the best dog food brands in North America. I'm not allowed to print the report here, since it is copyrighted.
After analyzing most know commercially made dog food in North America they only found nine that were healthy enough to make the list.
A number of the best name brands in dog foods are on the list of 27 brands considered but failing to make the final list. Names like Iams, Science Diet and Eukanuba didn’t make the cut.
The report continues to be updated, and in this 2nd addition there are six brands that have been removed due to reasons listed in the report.
Actually, this report details the positive and negative factors for each brand.
From what I learnt about commercial dog food during my research, I now feed both our dogs a homemade diet, but there are times you just need to be able to pour some food out of a bag I personally won’t risk the health of my best friends, because I’m to lazy to either cook them food, or at the very least buy them one of the healthiest, best dog food brands I can find.
