Communicating to another person is a way for individuals to sort out their problems, worries, fears and share wonderful occurrences and insights to people they feel a strong connection or bond with. As a young kid and until now, I realize that I actually enjoy family gatherings because I hear opinions and feelings of my family members that are useful lessons which I can apply to my life. Even simple updates from a close friend is a pleasurable experience in itself. Although, nowadays people are so busy with their lives that this does not happen often anymore.
This is why I think chats, forums and blogs have become popular because people need to communicate and express themselves. However, for those people who like to keep their insights and thoughts to themselves personal blog is an appealing outlet to pour their heart out on. I used to have a personal blog and I think that I became selective on what I say to my friends about my personal life because I ended up typing most of the rantings that I would say to them. I felt like I was distancing myself from them because I usually convey every minuscule detail about any occurrences in my life. I also felt like I became guarded with what I say.
The only upside that I can think of having a personal blog is that people do not seem too whiny or needy to others because they can keep to themselves concerns that are best left unsaid. However, blogging does not have to feel like you are isolating yourself from everyone else. Blog commenting can be used as a form of interaction on your blog. This actually generates further discussions and a community usually results out of this.
I think quality social interaction can still be achieved despite having a personal blog. It all depends on what you are willing to say to others and how much you will let your intimate friends and family into your life. Blog commenting can actually increase social interaction that you have with people that you may not normally talk to. It can also be beneficial because common issues are shared and discussed openly and since anonymity can be achieved, candor can be possible at all times.
