Celebration cakes, just like graduation cakes, have been part of our family since long before I was born. My Gran baked cakes for anyone in the family who had a celebration like a birthday, graduation, retirement or other success. The cake became a focal point of the party for a few minutes. Everyone came together to join in some short speeches, singing, cheering and congratulations. This focal point does seem to work very well for everyone and I love it. The type of cake and the celebration do of course depend on the occasion.

The best part is the moment of celebration. Everyone can be brought together to enjoy the occasion. The photographer can take great photographs as can the guests. The video will have a fantastic moment captured for ever. For guests and the hosts this could be the last chance to bring everyone together as a group. Also the cake is on display for everyone to see how magnificent it is.

The occasions that a cake can add greatly to the celebrations are numerous. They include a wedding, birthday, baby shower, retirement, promotion, sporting triumph and winning player in any kind of tournament. Each of the occasions can allow you to design a different type of cake. For example the cake may just have Happy Birthday, congratulations to the wedding couple, a baby picture or a retiree’s favorite past time. Also the sporting triumph could have a trophy style cake and the chess cake could have a chess piece design. Every occasion will have great symbols you can use.

The pressure is on the cake maker to produce a fabulous cake that suit’s the occasion perfectly. The design option available are fairly huge in number. If the party has a theme you can make a cake that suit’s the theme. The party theme may be Luau, Golf, Mexican, Baseball, Superheroes or Fifties for example. Each one of the themes has string mages that you can use to distinguish. For example, a sombrero for a Mexican cake, a palm tree for a luau theme, a golf club, a baseball, a basketball, a superhero emblem or cats eye sunglasses for a fifties theme. Other examples could be a surfboard, a soccer ball, a flag for a patriotic party or a football helmet.

One thing I do like is to shape the cake. Shaping the cake as a ball, trophy, tennis court, bat, graduation cap or trophy can be fun.

I hope all your cakes, including your graduation cakes, are something to be proud of.
