It is common knowledge that Steve Irwin lost his life in 2006 after being impaled by a stingray during a filming session on the Great Barrier Reef. And most people know he died doing something he loved and wouldn't have wanted to go any other way, but there is still a lot of sadness and feelings are still hurt amongst his family causing some rifts in their relationships.
The father of Steve Irwin, who was the founder of the Australian Zoo, was discouraged how the zoo was being run after his death. He was also disturbed about the choices his granddaughter was making, and ended up leaving the area after a fight in 2008 with Steve's widow, Terri. The saying is that time heals all wounds and a recent interview with Bob Irwin had some indications he might want to make peace with Steve's family, and be able to see his grandchildren Bob and Bindi once more.
Will reconciliation be possible? Well, there is no word yet on how Bob Irwin's statements have been received by the family or if reconciliation at this point is even something they would consider. During this interview he was asked about his feelings regarding the direction of the Australia Zoo at the hands of Steve's long time friend Wes Mannion but Mr. Irwin declined to comment and said that he is staying out of the entire process and not examining what they are doing. He is leaving it completely in their hands.
Of course, one has to wonder what Steve would think about the current direction of the Australia Zoo and also how it would be different if he were still alive. Unfortunately these questions can only be left to speculation. Many do believe that his vision went well beyond anything that is currently being done as he was such an incredible part of what made the zoo such an incredible wildlife adventure but I am sure that his wife Terri and best friend Wes believe that they are honoring both his memory and his vision by continuing to work tirelessly to expand the zoo.
Of course, with any loss over time will come a rebirth and it sounds that as the years pass Mr. Irwin would really like to reunite with his family and through doing so will probably help everyone to heal. After all they are the only blood relatives remaining and it would be nice to see them work through the issues and repair the void that has been left by the loss of Steve and of course the rift that came as a result of his death.
