Hello,
In this text I would wish to bust several of the most popular myths about hypnosis. Hypnosis is often feared or dealt with like a big con. This issue will be the first subject that we will talk about in this text.
Myth number one.
Hypnosis is something pseudoscientific, made by flower people in the 80s.
It is a usual misconception. Hypnosis is a really strong movement in psychology, that helps hundreds of thousands of individuals each year. Even police utilize it, to help witnesses of crime scenes recall the critical details about crimes.
Myth number two.
Hypnotist is somebody with supernatural powers.
It is other case of individuals having no clue how hypnosis works. Truth is anyone can be a hypnotist, Wolberg in one of his books gives an example of a young girl that learned how to hypnotize individuals watching a movie and then put it into practice on her friends from kindergarten. But in some events, the fact that subject of hypnosis thinks you are benefiting from mythical powers can be helpful. Such individuals will be easier to hypnotize, because they unconsciously acknowledge there is nothing they can do to stop you from hypnotizing them.
Myth number three.
You can be hypnotized counter your will.
No one is able to hypnotize you if you know he is trying. However it often happens somebody is hypnotized, but just does not know it. But it is entirely different matter, because he wasn't hypnotized counter his will, at that time he didn't have any knowledge about the fact he is hypnotized.
Myth number four.
Hypnotist can make hypnotized person to do whatever he wishes.
A lot of individuals that have never been hypnotized believe, that when you are in a deep trance you are unconscious. In truth even in the deepest hypnotic trance, individuals have unconscious hold over what is going on to them and will never do anything counter their moral values.
Myth number five.
Hypnotized person gains incredible powers.
It is partially true, hypnotized person gains hold over his all, often covered, abilities. This way he controls absolutely 100% of his capability, a state of mind which is often seen in individuals under extreme stress, wish fighting for your life.
Myth number six.
You can only hypnotize "weak" individuals, and strong individuals are immune to hypnosis.
amusing thing is that a lot of individuals believe in this lie, unaware of the fact it is the exact opposite. Confident individuals are really easy to hypnotize because they are much more open to other individuals, and are not afraid of the new experiences. While weak, afraid individuals feel threatened when they are getting hypnotized.
Myth number seven.
You can get stuck inside the hypnotic trance.
It is a complete lie. Getting out of the hypnotic trance is much easier than getting into it. Actually if you would leave somebody in deep trance all to himself, he would go to sleep and then wake up, like nothing happned. Trance is natural state of our minds, and we are born with ability to handle it.
I hope you found this text really informative, and as you can see there is a lot of misconception about hypnosis. The above myths are the cause behind individuals treating hypnosis like a sham, or what is even worse are afraid of it. However this really useful and powerful tool shouldn't be neglected as a way to help individuals get out of their mental issues and great way to persuade individuals in its unique form called "conversational hypnosis".
