UK is a very well-developed country which may be a reason why UK visas are quite difficult to obtain. One relatively easy way for Thai nationals to live in the European continent is to apply for a UK Fiancée Visa in Thailand.
This is the type of visa which allows a Thai woman to go to the UK and then marry her British fiancé there. It is by nature a non-immigrant visa, but can later on be converted to an immigrant one.
Requirements
Basically, there are three (3) main requirements for applying for a UK Fiancée Visa in Bangkok, where the seat of the UK Embassy in Thailand lies. Those requirements are as follows: a) a genuine relationship between the Thai fiancée and the British national; b) good financial status on the part of the British fiancé; and c) the capacity to marry of both parties.
To prove the genuineness of the relationship, evidences must be presented. Such could be in the form of e-mail messages, chat records, snail mails, phone bills, photos, tickets, and more. Also, the relationship must commence at least six (6) months prior to the visa application and still on-going. The longer the length of the relationship is, the stronger the presumption of genuineness.
The good financial status of the British fiancé is quite self-explanatory. Of course, a 6-month old bank statement, 3 recent pay slips, employment letter, and a House Title Deed or Mortgage Agreement plus photos of the house must be presented in order to establish an impression that the British national can support the Thai fiancée, financially.
Presenting a Certificate of Eligibility to Marry is also required in order to show the couple’s capacity to enter marriage. In case of previous marriages, either a death certificate of the late spouse or a divorce certificate must be presented.
As part of the new regulations set by the British government, the British national must write a letter relaying the story of his relationship with his Thai fiancée. He also has to obtain personally a letter of intent to marry from the registrar in UK.
The Thai fiancée on the other hand, must also undergo a medical check-up in medical centers authorized by the British Embassy in Thailand. They are very particular with contagious diseases, especially Tuberculosis. Also, Thai fiancées should keep in mind that it is their obligation to call the IOM for the schedule of their check-up and they must be prepared to pay for the fee.
Finally, the British national must provide his Thai fiancée a letter of Sponsorship. This is a way of confirming her desire to sponsor you’re her and further proof of his willingness to shoulder all her expenses in travelling to and staying in the UK.
