Olive Oil has become a normal household condiment for many of us. We use Olive Oil for cooking and many of us use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to add some glamour to our salads. Although this fantastic oil has become the norm in many households how many of us actually know what the real Olive Oil Benefits are?
For thousands of years the olive and its oil has been attributed almost mystical properties. Used in many religious ceremonies throughout the world and even found in the Egyptian Pharaohs Tombs! It has been revered for it's almost mystical qualities for thousands of years and the health benefits have long been known.
The people were told to not eat foods or drinks containing phenol during the study. The reason they did this was because phenol has already been proven to help control cholesterol levels. Onions, wine and vegetables as well as coffee and tea all have phenol in them.
After not eating or drinking phenol foods or liquids for 4 days... on the 5th day, the people consumed 50 ml of virgin olive oil -- about 3.3 tablespoons... with or without bread.
Then, the participants did not eat or drink anything with phenols for the next 24 hours. They ate their regular diet but also drank 25 mL of olive oil daily, for a week.
Also note that they were told to avoid high-fat foods during that period as well.
It is recommended that we consume at least a tablespoon of Olive Oil each day to improve our overall health.
This serving can also act on our joints to improve mobility and help to ease the presence of arthritis and aching or damaged joints.
Look at it like treating a creaking hinge. When we lubricate the problem area everything glides easily and there is no more grating. Everything moves easily and correctly. Now we obviously can't apply externally to improve our joint action but by consuming a great healthy preferably Extra Virgin Olive Oil the benefits to our whole body are enormous.
Many of us would keep the bottle of Olive Oil handy on the worktop for ease of use but it really should be kept in a cool dark cupboard if at all possible. Another alternative is to decant the oil into an opaque vessel such as a stainless steel container or a very opaque glass bottle. Keeping your oil away from the light will keep it in perfect condition for many weeks or months longer than if it is exposed to the light in our kitchens.
So to reap the full health benefits of our Olive Oil always keep your oil away from the light and any strong sources of heat and try to buy a bottle that is at the very least darkly tinted.
