It has become a trend to use the tiles in bathroom and kitchen. Reason is not only that they add decorative value but also make the area hygienic. Bathroom tiles are available in varied types, shapes and designs yet all are installed in almost the same way and need same level of precision. Follow the instructions stated below to get them affixed rightly at their place in order to avoid future hazards:
Determine Space -
Find out length and width of the area to be tiled. This will give you an idea about how much tiles, cement and grout you'll need for tiling determined surface.
Decide Tile type-
Bathroom tiles act as a waterproof shield from moisture. Make sure that you opt for right one that not only looks appropriate at the specified area but works well too in terms of design and maintenance.
Set up sub-floor-
Sub-floor is an add-on that acts as a ground for tiles. Thus, before preparing sub-floor, be sure the surface is clean, dry, flat, sound and sturdy enough to carry tiles weight.
Opt Design-
Before moving on, determine first that in which order you want your tiles to be fixed. Usually centre of the room is considered as attention grasping area. But that isn't the case always, tiles placement also depend on how the room is structured. Therefore, carefully determine their design first and then get them fixed on the flooring.
Setting Material-
With all above things done, it's time to prepare setting material. Preparation of material depends on tile type hence, read the precautions first and then take necessary care accordingly. Start spreading the material on floor from your designated starting point. Fix up the ridges if you find any and work out carefully on corners.
Position your Tiles-
Now start positioning your tiles by laying them in your desired design order. Install them one by one and slightly press each tile downwards. Work your way out from centre to corners and edges so that custom cut tiles will be fixed in corners and will be less visible to viewers. Keep checking tiles position regularly to make sure they are at their right place, right order and leveled too. Now let them dry for approximately 24 hours.
Grouting tiles-
Last step to get your work done is grouting the space between tiles. Make thick grout paste, spread it and firmly pack the joints with it. Do not press tiles hard that the paste gets expelled out.
Clean the bathroom flooring with wet cloth. Remove excessive grout and let grout set for next 24 hours. Periodically keep wetting the grout during this time.
That's it! Tiles are affixed rightly. Start using them and enjoy.
