The first generation telephony has turned into a very popular mode of communication for both the consumers and big businesses. There are considerable numbers of companies who have either taken the moves to integrate VOIP into their communication network or are already on the drawing boards for their eventual adoption of the VOIP technology in their existing communications system. Further, companies such as Vonage and Skype have already launched major moves for their transition from starter up to the mainstream.
A clear proof of this is the emergence of mass market VOIP products that are bringing cheap VOIP services closer to the home front. In a recent market report, researchers have noted a significant spike of 15.7% in the shipment of VOIP business solutions in Europe.
So what are our major expectations in the telecom industry in the face of mVOIP going to mainstream? We are now witnessing the confluence of events that will lead to the full integration of mVOIP clients into the modern mobile communication networks. There are now companies such as Fring, Truphone, Jajah and Mobiboo that are now offering great deals of mVOIP solutions. Their marketing thrusts are now concentrated to the consumer segment as their service offerings are continually evolving. However, there are now companies who have already taken steps to attract businesses to adopt mVOIP technology.
We are well aware that mobile communication can be a major financial drain for both the consumer and the business organization. This is especially so for those companies whose personnel spend most of their time on the field and where dedicated and regular contacts are needed. Companies who are in this situation consider their mobile communication expenses as a bitter pill that they have to take in order to maintain their normal business operations.
As far as the mobile phone carriers, these business organizations are veritable cash cows and it has effectively covered whatever shortfall they are encountering in the consumer voice call segment. Unfortunately, with the introduction of the flat-rate data plans, mVOIP technology has emerged as the top option for those saddled with high communication expenses due to the large volume of voice calls and SMS that they make. Mobile communication service providers claim that mVOIP can undermine the viability of their business and are taking steps in making things difficult for mVOIP clients and their subscribers using mVOIP technology.
Mobile phone operators are well aware of the potential mVOIP and of its impact on their core service offerings. They are looking at two possible options in order to protect their business interests. Mobile phone service provider may opt to block mVOIP. Their second option is to bring the matter into the market place and offer better deals to attract more subscribers and develop new streams for income generation.
There were companies such as T-Mobile that decided to take the confrontational approach and started blocking mVOIP in their mobile phone network. However, there are several service providers that decided to coalesce with Skype and lauch an entirely new package of offerings that features mVOIP component to their existing client base.
