Strategy # 1 - Selling Your Own Products.
This strategy is the most lucrative, but it entails a lot of work before you begin to make money. When you sell your own products, you make 100% of the sale. You do the work once and you get paid over and over. On the other hand unless you have already developed your own product, it's going to take time to produce. Now, you can shorten (perhaps) the process by buying PLR (Private Label Rights) products, but you will need to extensively rewrite it so that it has your voice and doesn't sound like everyone else who bought that product.

Strategy #2 - Professional Services
If you are an accountant, an engineer, a doctor, or another profession, you may start your own agency, office, or practice at home. (Please, check your local ordinances.) This way you will still use your education, cut commuting time, and set your own hours. However, you are also in charge of marketing your business and finding your own clients. Here, if you don't work, you don't get paid. You are still trading dollars for hours.

Strategy #3 Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is similar to selling your own products, but you are selling someone else's products. This is really cool because you don't have to create a product or service and if it is in a physical format you don't have to be concerned with shipping either. This strategy usually can be used in conjunction with the other business strategies listed in this piece. Unlike selling your own products, you do not get to keep 100% of the sale. The commission tends to be between 10% and 40%, although I know of programs that pay less and pay more. If the customer service of the company you promote is really bad, you may get a bad reputation as well.

Strategy #4 Drop-Shipping
Drop-Shipping is where you either have an auction store or a website where you sell physical items. So far it sounds like affiliate marketing, right? Only these products you either have to ship them yourself or find a company that will do so. I looked into it once and it seemed like a lot of work for little pay.

Strategy #5 Network Marketing
Network Marketing is where you get to earn commissions from work that other people had completed. This is where the concept of leverage comes in to play. You make your money based upon your sales and the sales of those you recruit. This is why Network Marketing is so popular. Now, this will not be a good fit for you if you are not a people person. You will have to talk to people on the phone and in person. You can not just hide behind your computer.

This article has described four strategies that can be used when considering starting a home business. The strategies discussed were Create Your Own Products, Professional services, Affiliate Marketing, Drop-Shipping, and Network Marketing.
