Why are large crowds of people coming to Twitter? What is the purpose of more than 3,000,000 people currently using this website? What is the purpose of high technological companies using this?
This is really two questions: First, what is Twitter? And second, how do people use it? Here's a short list of the top benefits of using Twitter.
These updates, also known to Twitter users as tweets, let users share status updates, messages, what they're doing to anybody who's chosen to follow the tweet and truly make connections with these followers. Members are able to obtain such updates by way of the twitter website, text message, an RSS feed, email, and other kinds of applications such as social media websites, blogs, and more.
Twitter: What's the Big Attraction? (or as my Sig-O says, "Why on earth would total strangers care what you're up to?")
Networking: It’s a great way to meet people. If you’re in a niche business you can easily find people who have the same interests.
Marketing: It's not just for big corporations. Oh, sure, Comcast, Dell, and so on do marketing to build their brands. But here's the key: So can you. And whether you realize it or not, you are branding yourself with every comment, blog entry, or tweet you put out there. Twitter drives a lot of business my way; people who follow me there want to know what else I'm doing in social media.
Stream of Details: I get urgent news and details on Twitter long before many news stations. A fantastic example was when the Bay area had their recent earthquake. In about 10 minutes Twitter had the details before CNN put it on their breaking news.
It's great! People from all over the planet use Twitter. You can always find someone who shares your interests and wants to chat.
If you haven’t checked out Twitter you should absolutely take a look. It’s a very simple, straightforward site. There are many ways to “cross post” which means typing a single status message and have it show up in other social networking sites (not to mention any names).
