Why can't people just say balding or baldness instead of alopecia? It seems to make out that you have some contagious disease that sounds as bad as STD! Anyways blame the Ancient Romans for this word - it's Latin and basically means baldness!
The old Romans kept things simple - a baldy was a baldy and that was it. Also they were obsessed with having a head of hair and the wig business in Rome was a booming business to be in - not for the women but for the men! if you don't believe look up your history books. Why is that then?
Well in Ancient Rome being bald was seen as a visible sign of lack of virility and weakness and do you know what - we today over 2,000 years later feel the same. The only difference is that we have many more names for it and probably have just as many treatments that would be considered snake oil at best.
However we do have one better than the Romans- We know what causes it and we have got some little 'magic potions' that work and we don't have to go to any witch doctors either to get them.
Basically alopecia - baldness OK, OK is caused by a chemical imbalance in the body that is manifested (I love that word!) in the hair follicle. for some reason men are more susceptible to this than women. However, more women are now suffering from baldness and balding - Hooray for equal rights! We now share balding as equals!
Though joking aside it's not very funny if it's really getting you down - everyone likes to be happy and especially if you are a woman suffering from all this you are likely to have a lower amount of self esteem than you have ever experienced in your life. The good news compared to men having baldness is that it's much more treatable so don't cringe when your doctor says you have alopecia - it's curable.
As for the guys - harder work and less chance of success is ahead of you! You need to check out what's available that has got a reputation for working and give it a go!
