Caffeine is nice to give you your morning buzz but it also relaxes your esophagus allowing stomach acid to pass. Candies with chocolate also have a similar effect in relaxing the esophagus. Large meals where you over stuff yourself can lead to the pressure of having to much food in your stomach opening the esophagus Eating in close proximity of you going to bed because when you lay down the stomach relaxes and if you have not digested your food it can cause reflux. Smoking cigarettes or any tobacco related products also relax the throat muscles. Lastly drinking alcoholic beverages increase production of stomach acids.
Many of these above issues that cause and lead to heart burn are very common in most people's lives. While they can lead to you feeling uncomfortable when you experience acid reflux, some of them also have other major repercussions on our health such as smoking.
