Pennies are tighter and many of us are thinking more carefully about how to lower travel costs so that we can still take a few trips abroad. Below 10 places to consider for a short-break.
1. If you are based in the UK, then you might want to consider travelling within the UK to avoid the exchange rate. Plymouth, Devon in the summer time is a good venue, with easy access to Devon and Cornwall and with the British Fireworks annually taking place on Plymouth Hoe.
2. Rennes, in Northern France is also another city which many people do not visit but yet is a wonderful city for history, architecture and shopping. Rennes is the capital of Brittany and a great location.
3. Agde, in the Languedoc region of France on the South coast is cheaper than a city such as Paris and yet in the summer time, Agde is a quaint and calm place. Nearby you can also visit Sete and cities such as Montpellier can be visited on day trips.
4. Barcelona is always one of those places which would be in my top 8, with the city able to offer budget options as well as expensive options. There are numerous hostels you can stay in and in areas such as Barri Gotic there are many inexpensive eateries.
5. Cardiff, Wales is not everyone's first idea of a weekend or short-break but Cardiff is a capital city and there is plenty to do. Cardiff Castle is an excellent castle to see and the centre is full of shops, restaurants, pubs and compact and well organised.
6. If you are based in the United States, then Virginia Beach is an excellent venue and in the summer time the annual Elvis Festival is a must visit event. Over the course of a weekend many Elvis events take place.
7. Catania, Sicily, is another venue often not considered yet it is connected these days to places such as London with direct flights with Air Malt and British Airways. Catania is quite cheap for accommodation and eateries.
8. Brighton in England is a popular choice for many people and it still makes my top eight destinations. There is plenty to do and the beach is excellent and on weekends there if often an art show with stalls on the beach. The pier is still one of the bets in the UK and Brighton is well located near to London.
